Why mobile weighing instead of a fixed weighbridge

Test programmes often run across changing locations under tight time windows. A shunting move to a fixed weighbridge costs time and isn't available everywhere. Mobile wheel-load scales are deployed exactly where the vehicle already stands.

This matters especially after ballasting: the applied load can be checked at the same location, without moving the vehicle.

Configurations: single axle, bogie, full vehicle

Depending on the test requirement, we measure by single axle, by bogie, or as a full-vehicle weighing. In a full-vehicle configuration every axle and bogie is captured at the same time, so the load distribution across the whole vehicle is visible in one pass.

Weighing after ballasting

After test weights are applied, weighing confirms that the actual load distribution matches the required test configuration. If the measured distribution deviates, adjustments and re-weighing can happen on the spot, before the actual test begins.

Trimova offers ballasting and mobile weighing as a combined work package, so loading, verification and any adjustment happen without bringing in a second external contact.

Data capture and documentation

Measurement values are captured and documented in a traceable test report. The required format and level of detail are agreed with the client on a project basis.

Our reference framework: standards

For rail vehicle weighing, our reference framework includes OIML R 106 (the framework for automatic rail-weighbridges), EN 45501 (metrological requirements for non-automatic weighing instruments), and EN 15654 (railway applications — testing of running characteristics, weighing).

These standards are our professional reference framework for operational delivery. The binding assessment of whether a specific measurement meets acceptance requirements remains with the client's own technical authority or notified body.

Frequently asked questions

Can weighing happen right after ballasting?

Yes. When both services are commissioned through Trimova, weighing can take place immediately after loading, at the same location.

Is a fixed weighbridge required?

No. Our measurement equipment is mobile and set up directly at the test track or in the depot, so no shunting move to a fixed installation is needed.

What information do you need for a quote?
